Morocco 🇲🇦, Casablanca.
We ended up at this restaurant by chance while looking for seafood, as two other places on our list were unavailable for different reasons. This one matched our criteria: seafood, alcohol, and a non-smoking environment. The restaurant itself is not very spacious, with tables placed quite close to each other, which makes it rather noisy, especially during busy hours.
FOOD:
This is a Spanish restaurant focused on seafood and classic tapas-style dishes. We started with marinated sardines — tender, delicate, and well balanced, with no complaints.
Next was the octopus. The texture was good — soft inside and easy to chew — but the dish felt quite bland. It lacked a crispy exterior, grilled aroma, and seasoning, and the accompanying purée was also underseasoned and unremarkable.
The shrimp croquettes were tasty, but the shrimp presence was minimal — more of a faint aroma, with the filling mostly resembling mashed potato.
We also ordered paella (the wait was long, but that’s expected). The rice itself was flavorful, aromatic, and well infused with broth. However, there was very little crispy socarrat, which is what truly defines a great paella. Additionally, the calamari were overcooked, and the prawns were not deveined, resulting in an unpleasant gritty texture.
SERVICE:
Service was generally friendly, though somewhat slow. The staff spoke limited English, but a translation app helped bridge the communication gap.
VERDICT:
Overall, a decent restaurant with good food and a lively, energetic atmosphere during our visit. The kitchen could benefit from more attention to seasoning and technique, especially for seafood. Prices are slightly above average, but alcohol is available, which is a plus. A reasonable option if you’re craving seafood in Casablanca.
