Carrefour Market Essaouira

“Lots of variety, clean & big car park. Plenty of booze to choose from if that’s your cup of tea. Lovely displays of fresh ingredients. Fresh local & packaged bread. Cheese deli counter, fish counter are excellent and very high quality. Plenty of aisle space. Helpful staff and friendly. Checkout can be slow @ busy times…Prices reflect convenience, quality and choice. I would describe the staff on the tills as hard working and perhaps a little fed up when they are busy.”

“Good range, plenty of parking, newly-expanded wine cellar, prices of items not always displayed, also items often not brought forward as shelf depletes so vertically challenged have trouble reaching the back of higher shelves, some staff seem reluctant to help, maybe restock or check shelves more often and have a few more people on tills. Fruit and vegetable staff super helpful and cleaning ladies friendly.”

“I read the reviews, how can service be terrible? Well there was a lot of staff packing shelves, and staring. I felt like the thief of bagdad. Water is cheap, diet coke is cheap etc. Everything else is hugely inflated in price. And not twice the quality. Being a thrifty shopper I felt I got what I wanted cheaply. There is the construction of a huge shopping complex adjacent, maybe competition will ease prices. 😆 Also I know a lot of people go to buy alcohol. The section is huge and European prices.”

“This Carrefour has tons of products from French salamis to fresh vegetables to a huge wine selection. It’s also small enough not to get lost. The only downside is that it’s a bit pricey.”

“Been staying near Essaouira for a month now and I've been to this supermarket more times than I care to think about. The major issue here is the checkouts. There have never been more than 2 open at any one time although at least 11 exist. The girls on the tills are shallow and slow and the queues can be a nightmare. It's the same in the booze cave where you also run the gauntlet of the shifty lookin security guard who double checks your bill all the time. Then there is the fresh veg pre checkout system where you have to have all your veg in separate bags, take them to a separate special veg man and he has to weigh and print labels for each bag...just a terrible, time consuming sysyem. Carrefour should be ashamed of themselves when unemployment is so high in Morocco. Surely hiring more staff to manage the tills could not be easier for them? The place is expensive too by most Moroccan standards. Cashing in on the expats I expect. Bread choice is rubbish too! AND the really ironic thing is that if they upped their game just a little on the tills they could double their profits easily by moving people through faster.”

“Easy shopping and they have even vegan products. I miss the vegan yoghurt products, TVP. Local apples are bio organic! Wide range of beers, (Moroccan) wine and spirits (closed on Fridays) Sometimes you can get whole wheat banquettes. Friendly and helpful staff. The only minus is that the surrounding of the shop a landfill is; plastic bags/bottles everywhere”
