“Avoid!!! Use someone else!! We engaged Guy Hoquet as an estate agency during our property search in Marrakech and the experience was deeply troubling. During the process we were targeted by what appeared to be a sophisticated scam involving fake police — and we have serious concerns about whether our personal details, which were shared with us by this agency, were passed on to the individuals involved. What made this worse was the complete absence of any follow-up from the agency after the incident. No call, no message, no acknowledgement whatsoever. We were left entirely on our own to deal with the aftermath. Throughout our dealings the attitude from staff was dismissive and disrespectful. One team member did attempt to be helpful, but given what followed we cannot say with confidence that this was genuine. We came to Morocco as serious buyers working with what we believed were professional, internationally recognised agencies. We expected a basic standard of data protection and duty of care. We received neither. Scams targeting foreign buyers are a known issue in Morocco, but when they appear to involve estate agents and civil servants, that is a far more serious problem. More needs to be done to protect international buyers. We hope sharing this experience helps others make an informed decision.”
