“Visited in January 2026. Morocco 🇲🇦, Merzouga. We were looking for a place to eat with decent reviews and an acceptable atmosphere — which can be quite challenging in this region. Baraka is a very simple roadside eatery located next to a butcher shop. The setting is basic, and food is cooked over a charcoal grill, with no pretensions or frills. FOOD: The menu is very straightforward, offering a few types of tagines and grilled meats. We ordered a chicken tagine with lemon and a meatball tagine with egg. The chicken tagine was good and turned out to be the safer choice. The chicken was well cooked — juicy and tender on the inside with a nicely crisp exterior. The sauce complemented the meat well and created a pleasant contrast in flavors. The meatball tagine, however, was disappointing. The meatballs were tough and contained chewy, unpleasant bits. The tomato sauce and egg didn’t come together harmoniously, and the dish lacked balance overall. The French fries were crispy and tasty — simple, but well executed. SERVICE: It’s difficult to judge service in a place like this, but the staff was friendly and welcoming. VERDICT: This visit once again confirmed a familiar rule: chicken tagine is a safe choice and something most places know how to cook well. It’s best not to experiment too much in locations where food is generally prepared in a very basic way. For this region, Baraka is a reasonable place to eat — just stick to the classics, especially the chicken tagine.”
“A very good experience. Fresh meat, reasonable prices, and delicious traditional Moroccan cuisine. It's a classic hole-in-the-wall eatery; the ambiance can't compare to upscale restaurants, but the taste and atmosphere perfectly capture the feeling of a small town nestled in the Sahara Desert.”
“We’ve been back two times to this restaurant as their food is very good. Prices are reasonable and portions are decent! We had the mutton tagine, chicken citron tagine, goat liver skewers and freshly squeezed orange juice - all of which were fantastic! We will be back again as we have a few more days in Merzouga.”
“I am allergic to cilantro and they made me my food special and it was so delicious. The people are friendly and the food was amazing. My friends had tangines and I ate from the grill both days we were there. I highly suggest eating here. Please feed the cats.”
“This is the place to go for authentic and fresh delicious food. The chicken lemon tagine is to die for. We love restaurant BARAKA. If you are in Merzouga you must try 👌🏽✨”
“Best food , best barbecue ever best tagine original way of cooking”
