“De Velasco is an upscale boutique of unique one-of-a-kind women’s and men’s clothing and quality accessories. The shop is located on Rue Ben Abbou in the Kasbah. The original larger shop on Avenue Mohammed V in Tangier used to run by Adolfo De Velasco for many years. The antique dealer and designer is credited with popularizing internationally the Moroccan kaftan, and he later established another boutique in Marrakech, where he also had another sumptuous residence. Adolfo De Velasco’s large palace on Rue Tenaker in the Kasbah was for decades the scene of numerous parties and it was filled with antiques. I remember my first invitation there in the 1980s and I had the most delicious hors d'oeuvres I have ever eaten....so much food that a dinner afterward was not necessary. I was really impressed by the grandeur of the square 40-foot tall main salon with several intimate alcove sitting areas. Adolfo De Velasco's iconic palace had fabulous views of the Sultan's Palace and adjacent gardens, Tangier’s long crescent-shaped beach, harbor and Strait of Gibraltar from a large upper terrace with swimming pool. I’m pleased that the De Velasco name lives on with these boutiques.”
