“After several days of enthusiastic exploration of Moroccan cuisine (and a heroic number of tagines), we felt it was time for a brief culinary detour. Enter Les Jardins de Bala, the Indian restaurant perched on the rooftop of the elegant Les Jardins de la Koutoubia hotel in Marrakesh. A very sensible decision, as it turns out. The setting alone is worth the visit. The rooftop terrace offers a lovely view of the illuminated Koutoubia Mosque, and in the evening the space is softly lit, creating exactly the sort of romantic atmosphere that encourages long dinners, slow conversations and perhaps one more naan than originally planned. The cuisine is very enjoyable and a welcome change from the local classics. We particularly liked the samosas, curries and freshly baked naan, all well prepared and nicely presented. The flavours are perhaps slightly gentler than what one might encounter in Delhi or Mumbai, but for most diners this probably makes the experience more approachable rather than less authentic. Service was friendly, attentive and efficient — the sort that manages to be present without hovering, which is always appreciated. Prices are not particularly modest, though they are largely in line with what one might expect from a restaurant located in a five-star hotel in the heart of Marrakesh. One comes here for the atmosphere as much as for the food. All things considered, Les Jardins de Bala is an excellent option for a relaxed, slightly romantic dinner — especially if you feel the need for a brief and pleasant holiday from tagines. 🌙”
“Very good Indian restaurant in the hotel - portions were generous without being huge, and the flavors were on point. My lamb with almonds was wonderfully tender and creamy, and my dining companions all raved about their choices. Service was friendly and unobtrusive. Thé décor and atmosphere are understated and tranquil. Our group of eight enjoyed a lovely convivial evening. Absolutely recommended!”
“Loved the butter chicken and the naan. This place had great ambience and very friendly service. For a price you can even use the swimming pool (ask at reception). The view of the kutubiyya mosque minarat is super stunning. Certain items may be pricey but the food hits!”
“This is possibly the worst Indian I have ever eaten !! We ordered a jalfrezi with no vegetables and ut came full with veg and with no flavor, pilau rice had mushroom cloves and bay leaves in it and apparently it is normal to leave skin on full garlic cloves inside nan bread , reviews I read were very misleading! The atmosphere is fabulous and the staff were fantastic but the food here is just dreadful and not authentic Indian !”
“Me and my wife visited this establishment after finding it on Google. The reviews seemed decent, so we decided to give it a try. I ordered the lamb chops with fries, and my wife ordered the chicken tikka. The food arrived together, which was a good start. Unfortunately, the chicken tikka had a strong smell, as though the meat was off, so we sent it straight back. The lamb chops also had a slightly sour taste and didn’t smell right either. The fries, however, were very good. The chicken was removed from the bill, but I still had to pay for the lamb chops despite raising concerns about them. Overall, not recommended.”
“We went looking for an Indian restaurant in Marrakech with modest expectations. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. First, our order was incorrect — we had ordered paneer butter masala but were served paneer saag masala. To their credit, they replaced it immediately. However, after that we waited a long time for the rest of the meal, and the food itself was not particularly good. I understand that authentic Indian food can be difficult to replicate outside India, but I have had much better Indian food in many other parts of the world. Another issue was with the paneer butter masala itself. The dish we received appeared to use cottage cheese rather than paneer. Paneer has a very distinct texture and taste, and substituting it changes the dish entirely. If paneer is not available, it would be better not to label the dish as paneer butter masala. The flavors overall seemed more catered to people unfamiliar with Indian cuisine rather than those who know what the dishes are supposed to taste like. What disappointed me more than the food was the service. It took a very long time just to get water — something basic that should be provided promptly. When we asked for the check, that also took quite a while, and when we handed over our card, we were asked to walk up to the counter to pay, which felt a bit rude and unusual. I understand restaurants can sometimes be short-staffed, but basic hospitality and attentiveness go a long way. I hope the management improves the service experience, because poor service ultimately reflects poorly on the restaurant.”
“This was by far the best Indian food we have ever tasted! It was actually a nice mistake, as we were looking for another Indian restaurant in the Medina. Service was slower, but the staff was friendly and spoke English well. The atmosphere was nice and had a heavy sense of history and Indian pride. But what is most exciting about this venue is the Indian food!!! Not one dish lacked in flavor! If you grow tired of the Tagine dishes and want other options, this is one of the places to add to your food journey here in Marrakech!”
“Honestly cannot fault this place. We went on a whim to have something different one night on holiday (just fancied a peshwari naan really!) and were blown away. The restaurant is in the heart of a very beautiful hotel and we were immediately whisked off to the third floor on arrival (no booking or anything) and taken to the restaurant. The sun had just set and the view was one of the best we have seen in Marrakech. The food was completely stunning and the service was excellent. We had the best time, the most beautiful evening together and it was brilliant value. Would return in a heartbeat. One of the best meals out I’ve ever had. If you go, definitely have the chocolate pudding too!!”
