“Avoid this shop. The products are presented nicely and the staff are very friendly at first, but the prices are extremely inflated for tourists. I bought several small items (creams, oils, deodorants, and small balms) and was charged 1120 MAD instead of 500 MAD, which I later learned is far above the normal price for similar products in the Marrakech souks. Unfortunately it felt like a classic tourist trap. The items look authentic but the pricing is not transparent and you only realize how much you’re paying at the end. There are many honest herbalist shops in Marrakech where you can buy similar products at fair prices. I strongly recommend that visitors do not enter this shop and buy elsewhere in the medina.”
“Been there and it was a wonderful experience. The whole place smelt heavenly like a garden. Met a woman there who said she’d been coming there every year for 7 years. That was something. My only regret is that I am back in my country and there are still so many herbs I wish I bought. Is there a way I can order them from here?”
“Rachid was fantastic, so informative and friendly! Loved learning about how all the herbs, spices and oils can be used for medicinal purposes. We will be back!”
“*Update* Safran we bought is fake!!!!!! From 5 star to 0!!! It’s a scam! Stay out. *original* TouRIA gave us a private explanation of the ingredients and how to use of all spices, herbs thees and argan-oil products. Good experience! No obligation to buy! Some “free” natural toothpicks afterwards!”
“Great service. I was looking for a spice they didn't have and they didn't try to push anything else on me but redirected me to a shop that might have it instead. Much appreciated!”
“Beware: Tourist Scam – Overpriced and Misleading Products! I had an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience at a so-called “traditional” herbal and spice shop in Marrakech. What initially seemed like a warm and welcoming experience turned out to be a well-orchestrated scam targeting unsuspecting tourists. The Setup: Friendly Yet Deceptive Approach Upon entering the shop, I was greeted very kindly by the staff, who immediately launched into an engaging presentation. They proudly displayed a variety of herbs, spices, essential oils, and other products with supposed therapeutic properties. They let me smell and sample some items, explaining their benefits in a very convincing way. At first, this seemed like an authentic and educational experience, making me feel like I was in a legitimate, high-quality shop. The Scam: Overpriced Products & Bait-and-Switch Tactics Once they had me interested, they moved on to the selling process, which was where the deception became clear. Without clearly marking any prices, they encouraged me to buy different products, assuring me they were of top quality and worth the money. Since I had no price reference, I assumed they were charging fair rates, but I soon realized this was far from the truth. They packaged the products quickly, not allowing me to inspect them properly before paying. When I finally saw what I had purchased, I noticed that the quality was nowhere near what they had initially shown me. Some of the spices had no aroma, the essential oils seemed diluted, and the herbal products felt old or ineffective. On top of that, they charged me an outrageous price—far higher than what these items are actually worth. A Warning to Other Travelers This shop operates like a well-rehearsed scam designed to take advantage of tourists who are unfamiliar with local prices and product quality. They rely on their charm and persuasive tactics to overcharge people for subpar goods. If you are visiting Marrakech and are interested in buying spices or herbal products, AVOID THESE TOURISTS-ORIENTED SHOPS AT ALL COSTS. Instead, go to local markets where you can compare prices, or ask a trustworthy local for recommendations. This experience was a hard lesson in tourist scams, and I hope this review helps others avoid making the same mistake. Don’t fall for the friendly act—once they have your money, you’ll see their true colors.
