“Our visit to Chez Lhaja for Friday couscous was a mixed experience. On the positive side, the couscous itself was flavorful, hearty, and satisfying—a comforting taste of traditional Moroccan cuisine. The portions were generous, and the prices were fair and reasonable, especially compared to other nearby places we checked. However, the service was a major disappointment. The person in charge appeared rushed, overwhelmed, and noticeably unwelcoming. As visitors who are not Moroccan and were only in the country for a short time, we hoped to ask questions and learn more about the food. Unfortunately, we felt discouraged, ignored, and uncomfortable doing so. There was little warmth, patience, or effort to make us feel welcome. Overall, Chez Lhaja offers solid food at good value, but the cold and unfriendly service takes away from what could have been a truly memorable experience. With better hospitality and a more welcoming attitude, this place could easily stand out.”
“Wow. What a find in the Medina of Rabat. A ladies run kitchen offering authentic home style food available for next to nothing. I don't like to go to the same restaurant twice, but went here twice as an exception. We had white beans, lentils and 2 tagines the first time which were excellent. We found out they do a special of Couscous on a Friday, along with a side dish of chick peas and lamb trotters. Sublime. The Couscous was beautiful, topped with caramelised onions and raisins, with a lovely fluffy texture. The trotters and Chickpeas were delectable, with a lovely taste and consistency. Highly recommended.”
“The worst service I’ve received during my 3 week trip in Morocco. I came in with my husband, but because he was not well, we asked for one portion to go. I open this and see the chicken was half eaten as if they have serve me someone else’s leftover. I saw what other portions looked like while I was waiting there and it’s nothing like this. This place does not deserve the good ratings because the woman in charge is very rude, I saw her asking other clients to leave reviews but even for that, she’s not capable of asking nicely. No one this cruel deserves success. I wish you happiness and then maybe you will become a better person and treat each client equally.”
“A gem of a place in the Rabat medina. The staff and the locals dining there made us feel very welcome. I tried hargma for the first time, and my partner really enjoyed the sardine boulettes. Very wholesome food cooked with love. Highly recommended”
“Hidden Gem Alert in Rabat Morocco. This unassuming place is run by local women who feed their community and tourists with home comfort food tagines and lentils with recipes passed down through generations. If you are in Rabat, don't miss this incredible foodie treat. Hole in the wall authentic eats. Five Stars to these hardworking mom's.”
“A great local spot for tasty, affordable food. The portions are generous and very filling. I visited on a Friday, when the traditional dish is couscous, and it was delicious.”
