Riad Al Borj

“Riad Al Borj is in an excellent location. Its very quiet at night, but close to the main square, being within the Medina. I paid £188 for 7 nights, which is great value. The breakfast was satisfying and included in my stay. I did opt for a shared bathroom which i wouldnt do again. Mainly because i dont want to treck back and forth during the night,and aftef a shower, having to get dressed in the bathroom. That said the shower was very hot and had power. The rooms are designed to keep the heat out and so can be dark. Breakfast is a bit slow, depending on staff levels. But i loved Tetouan itself and as a budget option,would definately stay again.”

“Very disappointing experience at Riad Al-borj in Tetouan. I booked a room with a private bathroom through Booking.com, but upon arrival I was told that this was a “mistake” and no such room was available. The replacement room was extremely humid with almost no ventilation, which was especially difficult for me because I suffer from asthma. I agreed to stay because it was already late at night. I offered to pay by credit card, but the staff refused and insisted on cash only. After we agreed that I would pay the next day, I was suddenly woken up around midnight and told to either pay cash immediately or leave the property. Since the nearest ATM was far away and it was the middle of the night, I had no choice but to leave. The behavior was rude, aggressive, and completely unprofessional. I felt very disrespected and unsafe. I would not recommend this place to other travelers.”

“Check-in and breakfast are in one place, while accommodation is in another. The entire accommodation only has one toilet and shower on the ground floor; the wet and dry areas are not separated. However, because there are few guests, there's no need to queue. On the first night, the shower had a problem; there was no hot water, so we went to the guesthouse reception area to shower. On the second night, the hot water problem was solved. The Wi-Fi signal was strong on the ground floor but weak and constantly dropping upstairs. Because the lights in the common areas are turned off after 11 PM, you need to use your phone's light to carefully descend the stairs to use the toilet, as they are quite steep. Two bath towels are provided. The bed has a very comfortable, skin-friendly blanket. There is no air conditioning in the room. The guesthouse does not provide a shared kitchen, and there is no electric kettle, microwave, or hairdryer. Breakfast is very plentiful, offering coffee or mint tea, two kinds of jam, butter and cheese, three kinds of flatbread, and scrambled eggs.”

“Don’t be fooled by the photos—forget about any kind of comfort. Shared bathroom with a built-in shower (meaning the bathroom floor gets completely soaked, and there isn’t even a hook to hang your clothes on). In my case, I had to leave the room and climb stairs to get to the bathroom (imagine that in the middle of the night). Breakfast is terrible and served late at 9:00 a.m. The room has no closet (meaning you have nowhere to put your clothes) and no trash can... in short, very bad... the only good thing is the location... only stay here if you have nowhere else to go... it’s not a riad at all, it’s a very basic dormitory without even the bare minimum of amenities.”

“The room was clean and has what you need. The rooftop terrace was quite nice, we spent time chilling there instead in the room. The staff was friendly and nice, the breakfast was great. Although the celling in the staircase and bathrooms are very low, bumped my head a couple of times.”
