“It’s a café with plenty of terrace seating facing the FNA market, and drinks cost around 20 MAD. It doesn’t have any standout features, but it’s easy to use—and that’s what makes it great. The waiters are attentive and handle orders and service efficiently. The rooftop terrace gets crowded around sunset. The best seats for enjoying the view of the Medina at sunset are first-come, first-served. But it rotates relatively fast.”
“I had a truly horrible experience at Grand Balcon Café Glacier and strongly recommend avoiding this place. First of all, they do not sell any kind of food. However, once you step inside, the staff rudely pressure you to purchase a drink — despite the fact that there is no drink menu available. Their beverage selection is extremely limited (tea, coffee, and sodas), and without any menu or posted prices, you are left guessing. After finding out they didn’t serve food and had no menu for drinks, I ordered a coffee simply to comply with their demand. Unfortunately, the problems didn’t end there. They do not accept credit cards and only take Moroccan Dirhams, with no flexibility for other currencies. This is highly inconvenient, especially for visitors. To make matters worse, the terrace view — which might be the only reason someone would consider stopping here — is far from impressive. Instead of a scenic outlook, you mostly see dirty green tents and crowds walking around the square. Overall, this was a disappointing and frustrating experience. Save yourself the trouble and do not step foot in this place.
“You pay for the view. It’s expensive for a can of pop but it’s a great experience to sit and watch life below unfold. It’s soft drinks only and you pay the man on the door when you walk upstairs before being allowed onto the balcony. Imagine it can get busy, we went about 9pm and managed to get a space overlooking the square. Worth going got the view alone and appreciate you need to pay more for this experience.”
“Great views over the square. Walked up the stairs to the top and was quite abruptly told ‘self service’. People were helping themselves to cans of drink out of the fridge, then taking them to the worker who charged them before opening the gate and allowing onto the terrace. It was cold and I fancied a warm drink so asked for a coffee with milk. No price lists up. Cost 30MAD. Sat for about 20 mins waiting for my one drink and had to ask 3 different workers. Others that had arrived after me were served before. There isn’t any atmosphere. If you want to sit and people-watch or take photos of the square- I’d recommend nipping up there. I didn’t see any food so don’t think they served it.”
“Go with the expectation that you’re paying for the view over Jemaa el Fnaa, and you’ll have a great time! A small mint tea is 30 MAD, but the views are priceless. Recommend going for sunset.”
“Beware of the 25 DH (2.5 euros) fee per person to enter the terrace. You get a drink with the entry fee (we paid 5 euros for a small mint tea and a small water bottle). No space to sit at a table before sunset, but we managed to get 2 chairs. It got really crowded at sunset time, but the amazing sunset and views to the square was worth the fee.”
