The Desert Palace

“Staying overnight in the desert was high on our bucketlist and the Desert Palace came recommended online by how ethical they treat their camels and how sustainable they work. They're also one of the oldest companies to organise desert stays, and have been operating since 2016. We never met Sarah, but she was very responsive through WhatsApp. We could leave our rental car safe and to no extra costs with their partner hotel and from there we were picked up in a 4x4. The camp only has 6 tents, and we were lucky enough to be the only guests at the time, so we had the full attention from Mohammed and the rest of the team. The tents are spacious with ensuite bathrooms, the shower pressure works best after 09.00AM. There is decent WIFI connection in the main tent, where all the meals are served. Everything tasted so fresh and was made with a lot of love and care. There are plenty of outdoors seating areas and every tent has its own little porch. The sunrise camelride and sunset quadbike were amazing experiences. The one big feedback would be to provide every tent with a moquito net, because our second night we barely slept because of the amount of mosquitos. Other than that nothing but praise for the hardworking team of The Desert Palace, thank you for the great care and unforgettable experience”

“Everything was great! Easy communication, detailed information in advance on activitiesl and the cute camels, which are family members and treated exceptionally well. We enjoyed an amazing sunset ride and the camels Casanova and Orion roamed freely on the dunes while we waited. No other camels have been treated like that. The camelman took a lot of pictures of us and was very patient, friendly and helpful. The staff is in general super friendly, always helping and taking great care of their guests. Special thanks to Mohammed and all the team for making our stay such an experience! The pick up was easy and on time, Youssef is a great driver and fun guy - we loved cruising the dunes with him. The camp is a bit further away than other camps, which is very nice, ie at night. It also cares about ecofriendlyness, which was an important factor for us upon choosing a camp. The food was delicious and the ladies in the kitchen are lovely. We also very much enjoyed the traditional music after dinner and that they made us participate. The tents are very comfy, spotless clean and equipped with private bathrooms. There are also many opportunities to relax on the property. 200% recommended if you are looking for an exceptional experience in the stunning sand dunes of Erg Chebbi!”

“We've been all over Morocco and seen many beautiful places, but the Desert Palace surely is one of the highlights of our trip. The place itself is wonderful, but what really shines is the care that is put in everything. The tents are clean and spacious, the garden is pretty and well curated, the people are incredibly welcoming, and the food....oh the food of this place, my gosh, it's some of the best we've eaten in the country. “Wonderful experience in Merzouga desert. Sara, her children and all the staff were so nice to us. We were lucky to spend two nights in the Desert Palace. People,tents,food,dromedars, everything 5 stars! This place is among the first to have been established in the Merzouga, and has achieved to keep its charm by connecting with the traditional, berber customs.”

“We stayed two nights in the Desert Palace. Communication with Sara as well as information provided upfront was excellent. The camp is really special with wonderful tents and seating areas and stands out from the crowd of other tents around. The service by Mohamed is excellent. He takes care and frequently looks after the guests. The cook is awesome with very tasty food provided during breakfast and lunch. The fireplace in the evening was special with the staff singing and drumming. Our daughter was particularly fond of the drumming and Mohamed was particularly kind to show her using the drums. The camel ride was really special. It was accepted that our kid rode the camel and the adult accompanies the group. We were offered another free ride at sunrise for free. Would we come back to Erg Chebbi, we would pick The Desert Palace again, despite the rather upmarket price which we gladly paid in order to experience this special setting. Beds are comfy, tent had a shower and toilet in a separate room. We encountered an issue during our stay which Sara handled professionally and beyond expectations. We hope that this camp will set itself apart by continuing to focus on sustainable tourism.”
