“Didn’t live up to the hype We went for Sunday lunch, when they don’t serve their signature rotisserie chicken. We ordered Le Grand Roast. Starting with the positives: the gravy was tasty, and we really enjoyed the sausage stuffing (though the portion was quite small). The highlight of the meal was definitely the Comté gougères — rich, flavorful, and generously served (five pieces). The meats were pleasant, but portions were disappointingly small — I could hardly believe how thin the porchetta slice was. The roast potatoes were overdone, with a thick, hard crust, and the fries were fairly basic. As for the “unlimited” chocolate mousse, it turned out to be more of a social media trap. While they do offer refills, the mousse itself was overly sweet, and I’m not sure how much real chocolate or cacao percentage went into it. After a few spoonfuls, it was more than enough. Personally, I prefer quality over quantity, and I wouldn’t order it again. Overall, I wouldn’t go back or recommend the restaurant. It was a busy Sunday, which is understandable, but the service felt strained — though the staff remained polite and did their best”
“We really enjoyed our lunch today! We had the cheese profiteroles to start along with some french bread and salty butter. We then all had the chicken and chips deal - we were offered breast or leg. All went for breast and it was so lovely and tender. The sauce on top was delicious too. We then had a mousse and an eclair for pudding and as it was my birthday, they gave me a lemon and raspberry Madeline with a little candle. Service was perfect, our wine constantly topped up, our water topped up. Plates cleared quickly but also gave us time to catch up with one another and left us be - would 100% come back and recommend here. So lovely.”
“I’ve found a place that does a Caesar! Missed these since coming back from Canada. It was very tasty. The £15 chicken and frites with chimichurri was succulent (you can request breast or leg) and my friend had the steak (cooked to your liking). The chocolate mousse and pistachio pastry for dessert really topped it off. This was such a treat and would definitely return. Our server was lovely and recommended the rhubarb and ginger dessert which we’ll get next time.”
“A lovely place for brunch or lunch with a really nice interior. The food was delicious — the chicken was moist (though the gravy was slightly oily) and the fries were crispy. Desserts stood out to me: the chocolate mousse was just right and not too sweet, and the Paris-Brest and pastries were flaky and satisfying. While the food was excellent, the service didn’t quite match it. We were greeted politely at the front, but the waiter who mainly served us was quite monotonous. He checked in with nearby tables about their food, but only came to our table to clear plates, which felt impersonal. For context, we were two Asian women, and the difference in attentiveness was noticeable. Overall, great food, I would come back but the service could be more consistent.”
“Great service, was seated quite quickly. The staff were lovely. The food was okay. Good quality, the chicken tasted fresh, chips were nice, but wasn’t the biggest fan of the flavour, was a little dry for me personally. The onion soup was delicious :)”
“★★★☆☆ A nice atmosphere and the meal was decent overall, but a bit hit and miss. I had the half chicken and chips with green beans. The food was okay, nothing particularly memorable, though the chicken was cooked well enough. Service felt a little lax at times and could have been more attentive. Was expensive too for what it was. The highlight was probably the mousse for dessert. It was very rich and quite intense, but still enjoyable if you like strong chocolate flavours. Overall, an average experience with a few good points, but not somewhere I’d rush back to. Was a shame, as I was looking forward to this visit.”
