“A Culinary Gem in Sofia: Annapurna Nepali & Indian Restaurant After asking a прекрасна приятелка, която срещнах in this marvellous city of Sofia for her top restaurant recommendations, Annapurna Nepali & Indian Restaurant sat firmly at the top of her list. She spoke with such conviction about the quality and authenticity that trying it became inevitable. She was right. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance is striking without being overstated. The design is thoughtful and coherent, with original artwork and intricate embroidery that give the space both texture and identity. It doesn’t feel decorative for the sake of it; it feels intentional. Having enjoyed Indian cuisine for nearly two decades, I don’t say this lightly: the Butter Chicken here is exceptional—arguably the best I’ve had. Perfectly balanced, deeply flavourful, and served without the need for any adjustment. That, in itself, says a great deal. Portions are generous—easily enough for two—and the pricing is more than reasonable for the quality on offer. What stood out just as much was the steady flow of diners throughout the meal. In my experience, that is usually the clearest signal. My rule has always been simple: eat where the locals eat. Annapurna passes that test without question. I fully echo my приятелката’s recommendation: ако сте в София, това е мястото, където трябва да хапнете. Определено ще ви хареса.”
“Hidden in Sofia center, this Nepali restaurant was a pleasant surprise. The decor was cosy, the atmosphere relaxed and the staff very friendly and helpful. We had the samosas and chicken meatballs to start and but were very good. As mains we had the shrimp curry and mutton rogan josh and both were good although l would have preferred them more spicier. There is a nice outside area and for those who partake, a good alcohol selection.”
“This place is a hidden gem in Sofia. The welcome is so warm that you feel like the most desired guest. Needless to say, it’s incredibly cozy and the food is truly delicious. The interior and decor create the feeling that you are somewhere in the distant Himalayas, in India or Nepal. There are also interesting books about Eastern countries, their religions and cultures, as well as authentic photographs, paintings, and other details. It’s exactly the kind of place you want to return to.”
“We had the chicken momo, roghan gosht, Bengali fish curry, plain rice, and butter naan. The curries didn't feel very authentic Indian as they were too starchy and the meat lacked flavour. The momo also didn't taste fresh.”
“Delicious food and a great experience! The portions are very big, and the service is excellent. I recommend booking a table outside if possible.”
