“We were super hungry and looking for something close. I saw good reviews and entered with my mom. I must say that if I would'nt see reviews, this place is a no go for me. Its true that the owner does not speak other language then bulgarian and there is no menu, just 2-3 plates a day. We were also given a bill when eating withou asking for it, but to be honest it is an elderly man who probably does run this business its own way and it works so who cares ? We took sarma and it was amazing! If you are around, pop in, its a true bulgarian food experience 😉”
“We wanted to sit down to eat but were refused by the lady sitting at the entrance who said "No, No go out, it's closed." At the same time, 2 men entered without a problem. We felt humiliated and frustrated.
“We eat there few times a week. Its traditional local food and yes, the owner doesn't speak English that's why foreigners might feel unwelcome. Actually suggestion to foreigners is to get inside, find a seat (yes the tables are shared) and ask one of the locals inside to share with you today's menu. There is no printed menu. Once you are settled you will enjoy the food. Here are some suggestions to have a great time there: - Go during lunch time 11:30 - 13:30 - This is a place with fast turnaround so be fast if its crowded and if there is a queue, so others can eat. - Find someone who can translate to you inside, ask any guest, we do it very often helping the foreigners. - They accept only cash, so make sure that you bring some. - If you receive the bill in the middle of the lunch don't be offended, that's a standard practice - During first interaction owner could look like a grumpy guy but actually he is very nice. Have fun”
“That’s worst experience in this trip. It’s better not to go especially Asian. Cause the man who probably owner at the restaurant ignored me and go to the kitchen even though his eyes contact me when I entered there. Then I guessed he didn’t notice me, so I told him “excuse me.” Then he gestured me like 🤷♂️. If he just can’t speak English, he should tell me he can’t speak it first, so he just racist me cause I’m Asian.”
“If you go at the right time, and have the right attitude, maybe you'll get lucky 😏”
“Chichaka is the best, best Bulgarian local food in Sofia. Every time I go there is epic.”
